Foundations, Coverage, What Works Best with Your Skin Type! Series 1

So recently I've gotten many emails from friends who have questions about foundations and what type of coverage it provided. Well here's some info that should be helpful and insightful. Foundation, types of foundation, coverage, and which one maybe good for your skin type.

Foundation is a tinted cosmetic makeup also known as base makeup. Its used to hide dark marks, blemishes, and other imperfections. Foundation comes in liquid, stick, cream, and mineral (loose powder) forms. Today you will also find that a lot of the foundations we use have sunscreens to protect or face.

Water based(liquid) foundations are typically used for lighter coverage and for oily to combination skin types. They often dry quickly and provide a matte finish. (Some foundations are marked oil free for oilier skin, so be sure to read the label carefully to be sure its been tested for oily and acne prone skin.

Cream foundations and Cream to Powder, also oil based foundations is considerably thicker. They give medium to full build able coverage. Some cream based foundations are not good for acne prone skin as it could cause comedones and irritation.

Face powder is used to add a matte, non shiny finish to the skin. It can be tinted or scented. It helps absorb access oil and sets the foundation so your able to apply other powders like blush and blends out any hard edges in blush, contour out eyeshadow.this should never look caked, streaked, or blotchy. It comes in loose or pressed and sometimes may have no color also called translucent powder. Pressed powder is primarily marked for touch ups.

Mineral makeup which also comes in loose or pressed form is made up of natural ingredients known as mica, which is the the base of most foundations. Mineral is its loose form before its pressed. This provides a sheer to medium coverage. This foundation is great for sensitive skin

Tinted moisturizer, although some would not consider this to be in the foundation category, I personally think it works great in the summer when you don't want to feel like your wearing anything on your face. Tinted moisture provides just enough coverage to even out the skin tone

Concealers are a more concentrated form of foundation. Its consistency is thicker and heavier and can be applied before and after foundation. Its used to highlight, accentuate, contour, and hide any other imperfections. You can use concealer for many other makeup tricks. Some also contain ingredients to add moisture or control oil. Some also contain acne ingredients that that can be used on acne.

In a well lit area, test 3 shades close to your complexion on your jaw line. Then choose the one closest to your complexion. If its to light it will look dull and chalky and if its too dark it will look splotchy and muddy.

Stay tuned for my how to tutorial.
